Small, Medium, GIANT: The Comeback Kids
What artist or group do you want to return? I’d be tickled pink if D’angelo and Lauryn Hill dropped a new album, but that’s not happening anytime soon. This year, some f my favorite throw back artist are making comebacks in a major way. Some bigger than others.
Amerie’s debut album in 2002 featured hit single “ Why Don’t We Fall in Love” which reached number 3 on the charts. Four years later, she returned with another hit “1 Thing” which earned 2 Grammy Nominations. After another 3 year vacation, Amerie signed to a new Label, Def Jams, and is heating up airwaves with her sizzling summer track “Why R U”. This come back is slightly miniscule because Amerie is not consistent. She’ll hit us with a banger then vanishes like a ghost. You will never see “Legendary” behind your name if you keep this up honey. Out of site, out of mind.
Maxwell is in that category with Lauryn Hill and D’angelo. After one album, they have become New Legend. Maxwell has released classics after classic. His first Album “Urban Hang Suite” went double platinum. The second, “Embrya”, featured single “Fortunate” which made #1 R&B/Hip-Hop single on Billboard. And “Woman’s Worth” is attached to numerous movie soundtracks. The Multi – Platinum artist has returns after an 8 year hiatus sporting a fresh tamed look and a new highly anticapated album “BLACKsummer’s night” featuring the hit single “Pretty Wings”. Let’s hope he doesn’t go find another rock to hide under for another 8 years.
Singer, Actress, Mother, Crackhead, Icon . Whitney Houston is Legned. This International Superstar has paved the way for many of today’s R&B/Pop stars. She has made countless hits including, “I Have Nothing”, “I Will Always Love You”, and “How Will I Know”. After accusations of drug abuse, strange public behavior, a scrutinized marriage to Bobby Brown she experienced a public descent from fame. After shaking off those bad habits, Whitney is ready to take that #1 spot. The album titled “I Look to You” is sure to make her the most anticipated comeback of the year.
