Album Review: Wale "Attention Deficit"

Washington DC, is proud right now! First the Obamas move into town and now Wale reps it.

DC native Olubowale Folarin Wale, debuted his highly anticipated LP “Attention Deficit” on Tuesday November 10th, 2009. The club ready first single “Chillin” featuring label mate Lady Gaga ripped the charts week after week, setting the tone for what is now an exceptional first album -especially for artists today. Wale isn’t rapping about the “money, cars, clothes and hoes,” he is touching on real life issues. The song “90210″ hits on the touchy subject of bulimia, coke addictions, and young girls trying to live the “celebrity life”. He opens up about growing up with a “darker” skin tone, in a song called “shades” featuring songtress Chrisette Michelle. He stays true to himself and his hometown DC on the track “Pretty Girls” feat. Gucci Mane- it has that DC, Maryland, Virgina (DMV) Go-Go feel to it. Don’t sleep on Wale’s lyrical ability either, especially after hearing “Mirrors” feat. Texan Bun B, where he calls out artists for being fake.

Collectively the album is incredible for a debut LP. It makes you wonder if he’s going to get the respect and recognition he deserves.

The album features collaborations with artists Bun B., Jazmine Sullivan,Pharrell, Lady Gaga, K’naan, Melanie Fiona, Gucci mane and J Cole.

An artist who respect fans, and cares about their feelings, stick around the longest. I sure hope they catch you in the .99 cent store though. [Laughs]
