    Barry Sanders

Barry might have not won the big one, but he certainly went out on top. During his last year in the NFL, Barry rushed for 1,491 rushing yards, missing Walter Payton’s rushing record by 1,458 yards. Barry retired the summer of 1999 by faxing in his papers to his hometown newspaper in Wichita, Kansas. Barry stated the reason for his retirement was due to the fact that the Lions were losers. Management then responded by saying they wanted their $7 million signing bonus back from Sanders. Things could have been different if Barry played three more seasons.
